We’re always on the go here at Lemay Child and Family Center, but sometimes the teachers design extra activities for the kids to embrace exercise and movement. Recently Miss Shonda, Miss Deonna, and Miss Alma’s classroom, the Dream Catchers, took to the mats with balls, trampolines and hula hoops. They had lots of fun!
We always take into consideration the safety of the children, families, and staff when
making the decision to close or open late.
Lemay Child and Family Center strives to stay open for families whenever we can, even with
bad winter weather. However, if there is a lot of snow or ice that makes driving unsafe, we
may have to close or have a “late start” to give employees and children more time to arrive
safely. We will announce closings and late starts on the radio, TV, and the Internet.
Our weather updates will be listed on kmox.com and KMOX radio (1120 AM); KSDK Channel 5
and ksdk.com; Fox 2 News and myfoxstl.com; and KMOV News 4 and kmov.com. You can also
check our website or call in to our voice mail for updates.

Comedy by Dan Chopin and Don Friesen
Music by the Morgantown Duo
Silent and Live Auctions
Our Featured Comedian, Don Friesen
Fresh, frenetic, and self-deprecating to a fault, Don Friesen’s comedy is outrageously physical yet thoroughly relatable. Don’s willingness to admit his flaws and exploit them for maximum comedic potential has a way of not only entertaining, but at the same time tapping into the humanity in all of us. It’s a uniquely fun, clever, and clean act with an incredibly broad appeal-an act that has earned him rave reviews and die-hard fans throughout the country.
In 1999, he won the prestigious San Francisco International Comedy Competition, the same competition that helped launch the careers of Robin Williams, Dana Carvey, Ellen DeGeneres, and Sinbad. He returned to San Francisco in 2005 to win the competition again, becoming the only comedian in the 30-year history of the San Francisco International Comedy Competition to win it twice.
ANNOUNCING A NEW WAY TO DO AUCTION BIDDING
This year Stand Up for Kids will be offering an upgrade on the way our attendees can place bids on auction items, make a donation, and checkout with the items you win…all on your own cell phone or tablet.
Don’t have a smart phone? We will have “personal shoppers” on-site to bid on your behalf so everyone can participate! Details will be available soon including instructions on how to register your phone, and our silent auction items will soon be available for viewing and pre-event bidding online.
The Center had an open house event to share our plans with members of the community and prospective donors. Attendees met with the architect and project manager and took a virtual tour of the site of our future playground. With the help of an anonymous donor, we are now nearly 40% to our goal!
The Outdoor Learning Center is an upcoming major project to develop the 2.5 acre lot behind our Center with new playground equipment and facility improvements which provide outside learning opportunities and address safety codes. Some of the alterations will include:
- poured-in-place resilient surfacing
- bike and stroller paths
- water fountains
- several sports and recreation areas
- a “Discovery Creek” and rock bed
- gardening plot
- log benches and picnic tables

Once again the staff, teachers and parents of Lemay Child and Family Center came together to hold our second progressive fundraising dinner, A Taste of Summer. Each classroom featured a different version of the summer vacation theme and the foods you might find there: Carnival, Bar-B-Q, Picnic, Baseball Game, Hawaiian, Camping, and Ice Cream Truck. Teachers and staff got quite creative in decorating their classrooms including a Fish Bowl game, a “flaming hoop” to jump through, leis for guests, and a giant ice cream truck with an order window. Parents donated lots of goodies from hot dogs to sub sandwiches to every kind of salad you can imagine. We raised over $600 for our future Outdoor Learning Center. Many thanks to everyone who attended!
